DESIGN LATINO-AMERICANO: POR QUE O MUNDO ESTÁ DE OLHO NA NOSSA ARQUITETURA

LATIN AMERICAN DESIGN: WHY THE WORLD IS WATCHING OUR ARCHITECTURE

From Milan to Bogotá: 2026/2027 trends and the rise of the Global South in interior design

The axis that broadened perspectives: from Italy to Colombia

Milan continues to be the global epicenter of design. The Salone del Mobile and Fuori Salone at Design Week annually reaffirm this with mastery: enchanting showrooms, launches that strengthen the next season, a dense agenda of events and installations that shape the future of interior architecture. However, amidst the established European references, Greenplac decided to broaden its perspective by extending its agenda across Latin America, not with a focus on design, but with a broad and neutral view of the continent in general.

Weeks after Milan, at Interzum Bogotá-Colombia, this agenda was confirmed. The fair, which also takes place in Germany, is dedicated to wood processing, furniture, and innovation.

But what connects Milan and Bogotá in 2026?

An interesting narrative that has been gaining prominence: the rise of the Global South in interior design, with Brazil playing a significant role in this regard.

The Latin America the world wants to see

For decades, Latin American design was treated as a less sophisticated version, months behind Europe or North America. While that time may not be entirely over, it has significantly narrowed or, in some cases, become a benchmark.

Latin America possesses a combination of factors that contemporary design values: a diversity of natural materials, rich chromatic palettes born from the landscape, a robust artisanal culture, and perhaps most importantly in a world of constant acceleration, a unique ability to find beauty in what is regional.

In times of global homogenization, authenticity has become a competitive advantage.

Resetting our gaze to see what's in front of us

A phrase emerged amidst so many walks through stands and conversations, between Milan and Bogotá: we need to reset our gaze. Not to forget what we know, but to make space for what we haven't yet seen.

Latin American design is at this moment of revelation. And the role of professionals working in this market—architects, designers, carpenters, builders, industries—is to be present enough to recognize what is happening before it becomes mainstream.

The 2026/2027 trends are no surprise to those who were there. They are a confirmation of a path that was already being forged. Latin America has reached the center of global design not despite its identity, but because of it.

From Italy to Colombia, we remain connected to a design full of meaning and to a Latin America increasingly central to the world.
